How to sell a share of irrigation water?
I own one share (one acre/foot) of reservoir water (delivered via irrigation ditch). I don't need it, but everyone here in northern Colorado talks about how valuable water shares are. I want to sell it, and I've been wanting to sell it for a couple years, but I have no idea how to locate a buyer. Anyone have an idea? I've advertised in the local paper and the regional farming magazine. I've run ads on Craigslist. I've put up posters at the local co-ops and ranch stores. I've notified the ditch company.
I've been told that these shares sell for $6,500. At this point I'd look at about any offer on it if I could just find an interested buyer. |

Don't sell. Water WILL become very valuable in the coming years. JMO

You should check to make sure that you still have that share. In my state, it's use it or lose it. If you don't irrigate for a few years, then you lost your water rights permanently.

I know it will be worth a lot more in the future, but I need the cash right now to get going on homesteading. Since I'm moving from Colorado to Wisconsin I will never have a need for that share of water. Thanks for the link to waterbank... I'll look into it. |
